Bronnie Griffin Band

The Bronnie Griffin Band transcends genres with their bright and lively sound, from Irish traditional to Americana, they bring an infectious joy to every concert. All well steeped in the Irish tradition, they spread their wings over the Celtic nations and delve deeply into American roots. From Michael Coleman to Bill Monroe, Cajun, Celtic, or just plain fun, the audience is always charmed. In addition to Bronnie’s exuberant fiddling, the band usually consists of Cary Novotny and Johnny B Connolly, but can be a moveable feast.

Cary Novotny’s journey from South Dakota to via Kentucky, and finally to the Northwest, took him from classical guitar to country, folk, and bluegrass. He is a professional guitarist, singer and formidable songwriter. Cary has recorded and performed with many notable Irish musicians, including Kevin Burke, The Bridies, Winifred Horan, Laurence Nugent, and the touring Irish dance show Celtic Legends.  His intricate guitar playing is always spot on, and his solid rhythms anchor the band, as his songs and voice draw us deftly into the heartland of America.

The third member of the band is button accordionist Johnny B. Connolly.  He grew up in Dublin then headed West on a musical journey that honed and showcased his bright and lively playing. He has toured with Kevin Burke, Nuala Kennedy, Solas and more, appearing at festivals and concert stages across the US. His solo CD, Bridgetown, was rightly called “a joy from beginning to end.” Johnny Box, as he is fondly known, is a player who sees to the heart of the tune, and delivers it to our ears with unerring grace.
