Workshops

On Saturday of festival weekend, we are presenting dance workshops with Elisa Chandler at the Lion’s Hall in Yachats, sponsored by ‘Bridie’s Irish Faire’ in Newport.

Also on Saturday, Rob Gandara of ‘Carbony Celtic Winds’ will be giving two free whistle workshops at the Yachats Lion’s Hall. (See festival Schedule)


Elisa Chandler – Ceili Dance Workshops

Elisa Chandler, long time instructor and member of  Oregon’s ‘Ceili of the Valley Society’ in the Willamette Valley, will be teaching two dance classes. 

She has been teaching classes for Ceili of the Valley Society in Salem for 15 years and calls Ceilis for CVS, festivals, and private parties. She has been a member of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society for over 30 years.

First class: “Intro to Irish Ceili Dancing…the social dancing of Ireland.”

Learn basic steps & formations and then we’ll put them together in some dances…this will get you ready for Sunday’s Ceili.She has been teaching classes for Ceili of the Valley Society in Salem for 15 years and calls Ceilis for CVS, festivals, and private parties. She has been a member of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society for over 30 years.

Second class: “Crazy Scottish Ceilidh Dances”

Come join in some fun, simple party dances. Spontaneous laughter has been known to happen when dancing these!

General Info for Both Classes:

1.) No partner necessary…wear clothes you can move in and comfortable shoes, preferably no bare toes or high heels.

2.)Fee is $10 per person, per class..  Cash at the door, or prepaid at Bridie’s Irish Faire.

Elisa will also be calling our Sunday ceili at the Commons. Brief instruction begins at noon on Sunday and the ceili begins at 12:30. 


Rob Gandara of ‘Carbony Celtic Winds’ – Two Free Whistle Workshops

Rob has been playing and making dozens of different instruments for over 30 years and currently plays with Ordinance, a Rock-influenced Celtic ensemble also based in Corvallis, Oregon.

Rob enjoys the broad appeal and fellowship of traditional instruments and music and enjoys meeting and working with musicians and craftspersons around the globe, as well as teaching those newly interested in learning the art of playing wind instruments. .
